Van Barneveld and Van Duijvenbode make jump on Euro Tour Order of Merit; Van Veen may dream of European Championship participation after quarterfinal finish

The Dutch have done good business with their performance at the European Darts Matchplay for the PDC European Tour Order of Merit. Four Dutchmen are now certain of competing in the European Championship, while one more Dutchman could possibly compete.

Although Michael van Gerwen lost in the second round, he is still the best Dutchman in the rankings with fourth place. Dirk van Duijvenbode was close to final victory in Trier, but after four missed matchdarts 'Aubergenius' had to settle for second place. Van Duijvenbode, however, added another 12,000 pounds to the ranking and is now number six. Tournament winner Humphries climbed from fifth to second place and is now only ahead of leader Dave Chisnall.

Danny Noppert retained his 13th place, while Raymond van Barneveld managed to gain some places. The 56-year-old from the Hague won over George Killington, Michael van Gerwen and Ryan Searle at the European Darts Matchplay and eventually stranded in the quarter-finals against Joe Cullen. Because of his performance, 'Barney' collected 6,000 pounds in prize money, which also means Van Barneveld is now certain of qualifying for the European Darts Championship. The five-time world champion currently occupies eighteenth place.

Gian van Veen reached the quarter-finals on the Euro Tour for the second time this season. As a result, he is now 31st in the rankings with three Euro Tour tournaments to go. The 21-year-old Dutchman can therefore dream of participating in the European Darts Championship later this year.

Dimitri van den Bergh is currently the only Belgian in the top-32 rankings. 'The Dreammaker' finds himself in 21st position. Kim Huybrechts is still somewhat close to the qualifying spots with a 37th place.

At the end of the season, the 32 best players in the final rankings will compete in the European Championship in Dortmund. This tournament is scheduled from Oct. 26 to 29.
