James Wade is through to the World Matchplay Quarter-Finals after coming through a tough battle with 2018 finalist Mensur Suljovic in a second consecutive tie-break thriller.
Wade claimed a 13-11 victory including two 180's and two ton plus checkouts. He hit 43 percent on the doubles compared to Suljovic's 34 percent which was the difference in the end.
The match started level between the duo with nothing to split them at 5-5 showing the similarities between both players but it was Suljovic who likely would have been the most pleased hitting 82 for a 12 darter to make it 5-5.
He ended up hitting the front breaking the throw after Wade missed one at tops and from there he opened up an 8-5 advantage as it seemed like he was cruising towards a potential victory. He came unstuck though missing darts at double to break in requisite legs allowing Wade to restore parity at 8-8 with a brilliant 141 checkout.
More missed darts allowed Wade to lead 9-8. Suljovic though stopped the rot himself pouncing on missed doubles this time, Wade though went one away at 10-9 but it wasn't done there.
'The Gentle' came back with a brilliant 13 darter to force a tie-breaker for the second consecutive game. Suljovic punished brilliantly in the following leg with Wade missing a dart at the bull and him hitting double eight to go 11-10 up and break.
Wade broke back though pouncing on a poor leg from Suljovic hitting his trademark double ten and from there he went one away with a brilliant 71 finish.
The Austrian missed darts to hold and Wade once again hit double ten in a clutch last dart to claim the win.
