Peter Wright will kick off his World Matchplay campaign on Sunday night in a potential game of the first round against the in-form Portuguese debutant Jose de Sousa.
Wright ahead of starting proceedings tonight has said it will be 'very horrible' to play without a crowd in Milton Keynes despite crowd noise being pumped into the venue as they play.
Known to change his darts regularly, Wright has also admitted that he doesn't even know which he will use yet and that despite it being behind closed doors, the prestige of the tournament stays the same for him.
“I’ve brought about 30-odd sets of darts for the PDC Summer Series. I still haven’t got a clue which ones to use at the Matchplay. I tested out a new pair. I don’t think they will work on TV. So I changed my setup," said Wright to Red Dragon Darts.
"It will be very horrible. The crowds are amazing, they spur you on even when they are booing you. It makes you play. It will be difficult playing without them. Fingers crossed we will be back in Blackpool next year."
“There is a lot of money. How will the other players approach it? I know how I will approach it. Whether they do the right approach to the tournament. Just because it’s behind-closed-doors doesn’t it mean it’s not a major.”
