The players competing in the 2024 WDF World Championship at Lakeside have 221,000 pounds of prize money to divide. The tournament at Lakeside will take place from Friday, Nov. 29, to Sunday, Dec. 8.
The prize money is a lot lower than in 2023, when £257,000 was made available. The reduction in prize money has not affected the amount going to the winners of the various components.
In the men's tournament, there will be competition for the top prize of 50,000 pounds. All participants are guaranteed £750 in prize money. The total prize pool for the men's tournament is 158,000 pounds. The ladies have 69,000 pounds to distribute. They too will all receive a minimum of 750 pounds in prize money. The new women's world champion will go home with 25,000 pounds.
There will also be a tournament for boys and girls. The winner of the boys' tournament wins a sum of 3,000 pounds, while the winner in the girls' tournament collects a sum of 1,500 pounds.
There are certainly some interesting names competing at Lakeside; what about darts legend Paul Lim, who remains the only player ever to throw a nine-darter at this iconic darts venue. The darter from Singapore accomplished this feat in 1990. The men's field also includes Jimmy van Schie, Neil Duff, Moreno Blom, Matthew Edgar, Dennis Nilsson, Francois Schweyen, Brian Raman, Sybren Gijbels, Jarno Bottenberg and Corné Groeneveld.
Among the women, Beau Greaves is the big favorite for the world title. Although Fallon Sherrock, Noa-Lynn van Leuven and Mikuru Suzuki are not competing, there are a few other women who could potentially make things difficult for Greaves. The 20-year-old Englishwoman faces competition from the likes of Aileen de Graaf, Rhian O'Sullivan, Deta Hedman and Lisa Ashton.
