WE'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE 👀 Robert Thornton is without a WSDT TV title right now. But the Scot is back into the final 4 of a major, and in with a chance of reclaiming the Matchplay crown 👑
Leonard Gates has been one of the main leading lights on the WSDT (World Seniors Darts Tour) and he seems to be making his statement this weekend to be one of the favourites for the title.
Gates brushed aside Lisa Ashton 8-1 who was lucky to escape with a leg from proceedings. She only did so at 7-0 as she spared her blushes against the brutally brilliant American.
He averaged 83 in the end. In particular a slew of 14 darters in the middle of the game provided the springboard for him to head towards the win. He went 5-0 up as a result and Ashton didn’t play poorly averaging 80 but was often left with ton plus finishes instead of the simple ones left by Gates.
After her solitary leg, Gates finished it off on double eight for an emphatic win. He now faces Robert Thornton who took down Martin Adams.
Thornton and Adams started off dead level in a sluggish start as ‘The Thorn’ made it 2-2 with a 48 checkout. But he gained an angle in front as he pinned his favoured double 20 for 5-3. It was three on the spin and from there he continued to inch ahead. He went one away at 7-4 before hitting 64 for the victory.
