John Henderson, Robert Thornton, Neil Duff and Lisa Ashton are the final four quarterfinalists at the World Seniors Matchplay. They join Martin Adams, David Cameron, Leonard Gates and Richie Howson, who had earlier qualified for the last eight.
Duff managed to produce the best performance of the whole first round. 'The Duffman' threw an average of 96.10 in his match against Chris Mason. The Northern Irishman won 8-4 against Mason, averaging 96, while Mason averaged 88.
The most exciting match of the first round was between Thornton and John Part. The two-time PDC major champion booked a 10-8 victory over the thee-time world champion. 'The Thorn' was leading 6-3, before Part forced a tiebreaker after coming back to 7-7.
Then both men held their own legs, making it 8-8 after sixteen legs. The Scot then gained a 9-8 lead by throwing out 87 in his own leg. Part then failed to get 107 out to extend the match, before Thornton decided the match with a 14-darter.
John Henderson also joined the last eight. The reigning senior world champion faced Tony O'Shea, the replacement for the injured Phil Taylor at this tournament. It turned out in a 8-5 win for 'The Highlander'.
The final winner of the first round was Lisa Ashton. The four-time women's world champion recorded a handsome 8-3 victory over Paul Hogan. Ashton recorded an average of 87 in the process, compared to 91 for Hogan.
