With the BDO World Darts Championship not taking place this month due to the organisation’s demise, DartsNews looks back at classic moments and matches throughout January from the showpiece event.
Onto 2016 and for Scott Waites, he became a two-time Lakeside World Champion by defeating Jeff Smith 7-1 in the final.
The defending champion was Scott Mitchell who lost out in the Quarter-Finals to Richard Veenstra.
I am a big fan of 2 Hotty and expected much more from Jeff, I think the fantastic semi final Jeff played with Veenstra drained him. I remember 2 Hotty having titanic matches with Glen Durrant and Gerry De Vos, he was lucky to get past them and I expected the final to be just as close. Magic week and memories from Lakeside. Hope to see 2 Hotty rise up the rankings this year, he really should have beaten aspinall at the palace this year.

- obviously littler has the potential to surpass everybody simply because nobody has been this good at this age before, but people who think he would be any kind of favourite right now against prime taylor in a big final have short memories. it's obvious that prime taylor wouldn't win as many world titles if he was playing today, but there's also good reason to believe he'd be winning more than anybody else. hell, his statistical profile still stands alone in darts history and he might statistically be even better if he was playing today with better equipment, larger beds, more competition therefore more motivation, etc.colt24-03-2025
