It's fair to say that James Wilson's weekend at the German Darts Championship really took the biscuit.

The two-time BDO major winner had yet to reach a final in a PDC stage event. But Lethal Biscuit discovered a ruthless streak in Hildesheim, and nearly took the title. The Yorkshireman followed successive 6-5 wins over Jermaine Wattimena and Jonny Clayton with victories against Robert Thornton and Ron Meulenkamp. He saw off Mensur Suljovic 7-4 in the semi-finals, but it was Michael van Gerwen who claimed another German Darts Championship crown, winning 8-6.
Defeat wasn't enough to dampen Wilson's spirit. In fact, after the game he pondered how close he had come to winning it, reflecting on two missed chances at doubles towards the end of the game.
"I'm quite happy with that," Wilson said in an interview with the PDC.
"Not being funny, but if that double 10 had gone in, or that double 18, it might've been a different story."

History

''It's massive for me. In my first game, I thought I was rubbish. I'd been playing well, and it was a disappointment to me. But once I started rolling, I thought 'yeah, it's here' Wilson came within inches of history in the final - and within millimetres in the second round. At 5-4 down against Cullen, the Huddersfield thrower wired a dart at double 12 for a nine-darter. "I'll never forget that. Because when it left my hand, it was in!"

Future

Now Wilson's eye is on the near future, and qualification for the upcoming majors.
"(September) is massive for me.
"It was my goal, earlier in the season, to get to Blackpool. After that I slacked off a bit," he admitted.
"But now, my main one is the Worlds. Looks like I'm in the Grand Prix, hopefully I'm in the European Championship... but the main one is the Worlds, I want to be seen there."
