Rodriguez spoke afterwards and said it was a good win for him ahead of his tie in round two with Cristo Reyes.
“It was a good win for me so I’m happy.” said Rodriguez.
On winning the third set and whether that gave him momentum going into the final set, he said that he always had it in the back of his mind that he had to break.
“I knew after the bull in the practice area that I have to win my own set and I’ve done that pretty nicely. I thought to myself you’ve got to break him once, that was my target and I’ve done that so I’m happy.”
He said on the disappointment of the past 18 months that he is still trying and now he’s sorted everything out he can focus on the darts again.
“I’m still trying, I’m a young player, I’ve done something wrong in the past but I know what I’ve done wrong so I’m keeping going and focusing on the darts now.”
Like alluded to his next assignment will be Cristo Reyes and he said he expects an open game and that he will see what happens on the day.
“He’s a good friend of mine; but it’s an open game even if he’s seeded, I know I can beat him and he knows he can beat me but it’s up to date so we will see what happens on the day.”
