The pair have met plenty of times on the big stage, including the European Championships final in 2017. They also clashed in one of the greatest PDC World Championship ties of all time, with Cross winning the Ally Pally semi-final back in December. But van Gerwen and Cross got the chance to take their rivalry to a new dimension in a game of Virtual Reality Darts.
The world champion and world number one took on the challenge in a promotional video for Betway. VR gaming has looked to simulate a number of real-life experiences, including darts. Here, two of the game's best players prove that talent on the oche doesn't necessarily translate to the virtual world.
One can only assume that it's just as true the other way around.
