For a second successive year Darren Webster defeated Simon Whitlock in the second round of the World Championship. After beating 'The Wizard' 4-0 last year, Webster won 4-1 on this occasion.
Webster had won 6 straight sets against the Wizard at Ally Pally. That run continued for Webster to begin this match. After taking a nervous opening set 3-2, Webster raced out to a three set lead.
Whitlock stopped the rot winning the fourth set, his first in ten against the builder from Norfolk. A finish of 90 and a 12-dart leg helping the Australian on the way.
But it was Webster who finished off the job in the fifth set. Trading holds before landing the winning double against Whitlock’s darts in the fourth leg. Webster will now face the Winner of Toni Alcinas versus Kevin Munch.
