Whitlock after winning against North: “I’m happy to make it through”

Simon Whitlock made it through comfortably against a close friend in Richard North who looked to be overawed by his debut on the World Matchplay stage.
Whitlock spoke afterwards and admitted his opponent was better than his performance showed but that he is happy to make it through in the end.
"Richard is a fantastic dart player, a lot better than he showed tonight," said Whitlock.
"It's never easy playing a friend but I felt relaxed during the match and I'm happy to make it through."

- It is simply not true to say that these 5 players are guaranteed to keep their Tour Cards. At least Karel Sedlacek, Dylan Slavin and Stephen Burton are in danger of losing them, especially if they fail to win their first round match.
