Luke Littler produced an utterly sensational debut which proved the hype is very much real for the Warrington thrower as the 16-year-old hit a 106 average to topple Christian Kist with ease at the
World Darts Championship.
A fairly mild-mannered person off the oche, Littler was orchestrating the crowd and getting them on side as he took the victory with chants of You've got school in the morning. But as he pointed out, he does not with a Tour Card in the offing next year. Albeit as someone watching darts growing up, he couldn't believe that he'd won on the big stage.
"I can't put it into words, I've watched the World's for many years. Seen loads of different people lift the title, but just watching it as a little kid I've done it, I've actually won a game on this big stage," said Littler post match. He also spoke about how he was going to celebrate with Littler unable to drive, vote or drink yet as was pointed out in his press conference. "I'll probably just treat myself to a kebab, get myself some bottles of Coke or Fanta."
"I've not checked my phone yet, I know what that's going to be like. I'll be up till early hours but I couldn't sleep last night and it'll probably be the same tonight knowing I'm playing again tomorrow. I play Andrew and my main goal is to hopefully come back after Christmas."
"I hope if I can't remain at 106, stay around the ton mark against Andrew Gilding as I know he's a slow thrower and I've just got to find a rhythm."
A player with a lot of hype, he said that comparisons with Michael van Gerwen could yet be valid as he knows what he can achieve.
"They said I'm better than MVG, I can't agree I can't disagree as I know what Michael done at his age and I know what I can do.
