Gary Anderson has withdrawn from the next Players Championship double header which is set to take place this weekend (22-23 June) in Wigan, it has been revealed.
Anderson has basically played solely on the Players Championship series this year barring at the UK Open but also claimed the title at the World Cup of Darts recently.
He will defend his World Matchplay title in a few weeks time in Blackpool so will likely be getting ready for that.
Also not involved this weekend are the likes of
Raymond van Barneveld who in doing so has given up his chance of making the World Matchplay.
As well as that, in a previous announcement Michael van Gerwen and Rob Cross will both also
not be involved.
This will give those still playing in Wigan another big opportunity and with multiple first time title winners this season; it could be another surprise weekend on the Players Championship series.
