Michael van Gerwen lost in the final of last year's Rotterdam Premier League Darts but won't even make it out of the Quarter-Finals this year with Nathan Aspinall silencing the partisan crowd inside of the Ahoy.
Aspinall produced a superb 118 checkout in the deciding leg to knock out the home hero who will now have more pressure from Gerwyn Price atop the table with the Welshman already through to the semi-finals.
Van Gerwen took the early impetus and the opening leg with an 84 checkout but Aspinall kept up a slender lead through as despite a 101 checkout, he hit an 84 to move 3-2 up.
He missed the bull amid pressure from the crowd and Van Gerwen used two double 20's for 4-4. But Aspinall silenced the crowd with a 100 checkout of his own.
He went one away but Van Gerwen took out 87 for a break of throw and was throwing for the match only for Aspinall to snatch it away from him with a 118.
Next up will be Dimitri van den Bergh with Peter Wright being defeated in a bottom of the table affair 6-3.
Van den Bergh had suffered four consecutive Quarter-Final defeats but tonight he saw off 'Snakebite' who has been resurgent in recent weeks and now has Aspinall next up as he looks to revive his play-off hopes.
