Aspinall edges past Sedlacek, Whitlock continues Van Gerwen curse with defeat against Meikle

Nathan Aspinall and Ryan Meikle have sealed spots in the Quarter-Finals of the Hungarian Darts Trophy in Budapest in the final two games of the afternoon session.

Aspinall recorded a steady 6-4 victory over Karel Sedlacek in the third round on Sunday afternoon with an average of 98 and 54.5 percent on the doubles. After leading 5-2, Sedlacek came back to 5-4, before Aspinall forced the decider with a 14-darter.

Simon Whitlock then continued his curse against Michael van Gerwen in which he loses in the round directly after as Meikle moved through.

'The Wizard' beat Michael van Gerwen on Saturday evening, but initially could not break the throw of 'The Barber'. He came back from a 2-5 deficit, but failed to win the deciding leg in five visits and Meikle hit 68 for the win.
