Beau Greaves has ended on a high at the
Grand Slam of Darts ending her campaign by seeing off
Cameron Menzies 5-1 who just about survives in the tournament by the skin of his teeth. The same cannot be said for
Martin Schindler.
Greaves who is more used to facing the girlfriend of Menzies in fellow top female star, Fallon Sherrock signed off with a superb victory. Albeit partly down to the fact that Menzies was woeful on the outer ring.
It was 1/11 from Menzies who moves through but shows that improvement is still needed in his up and down game. She hit a 95.2 average though and was sterling on her doubles hitting 5/8. Next stop for Greaves will be the WDF World Championship.
While
Danny Noppert broke Martin Schindler's heart again who still hasn't made it out of the group. He sealed a 5-2 win over the German with a 106 average. To confound his misery, Schindler hit a 109 average in defeat. He also missed four darts to secure the three legs he needed.
As a result despite his heavy loss to Greaves, Menzies moves through alongside Noppert. The Dutchman needed four legs to secure a group win, while Schindler needed three legs to advance at the expense of Menzies. After four legs, the score was 2-2 before Schindler missed two darts for a break.
These misses were punished by Noppert, who pinned 100. He then posted a break with a 14-darter for 4-2. In the last leg Schindler had two chances to take his third leg, but they were missed. Noppert then hit the double 6 for the win.
Noppert's opponent in the second round is also already known. That will be Mickey Mansell, after the Northern Irishman surprisingly finished second in Group A. Menzies will meet the winner of Group A, which will be the winner of the game between James Wade and Rowby-John Rodriguez.
