Michael Smith starts this year's World Grand Prix as the world number one and world champion. In the opening round, he will take on Callan Rydz.
However, the World Grand Prix is a tournament that does not suit Smith particularly well. In ten appearances, he never made it past the last sixteen. "Been there ten times and I've only won two games which is a bit bad. I'm going to actually try this time," Smith said to Boyle Sports with a wry smile.
Smith is beginning his final months as reigning world champion. "I've enjoyed my time being world champion," said 'Bullyboy'. "I just don't want it to end so leading up to the World Championships again, I want to keep hold of it."
