Phil Taylor was the best at the European Championship four years in a row from 2008 to 2011. Statistics platform Darts Oracle has shared some statistics on 'The Power's' dominance during the early years of the European Championship.
The darter from Stoke-on-Trent won all of his 20 matches without giving up a single match dart. Of the 267 legs Taylor played, he won 188, a winning percentage of 70 percent.
In nineteen of the twenty matches, he recorded an average of over one hundred, no less than thirteen of which even exceeded 105.
In the period from 2008 to 2011, Taylor's lowest tournament average was already 104.29, while his highest tournament average at the 2009 European Darts Championship was 111.54. That average is still the highest tournament average by a winner at a PDC tournament. During that tournament, Taylor set averages of 111.03, 110.88, 118.14, 109.36 and 109.35, respectively.
It is even more impressive when we list the full list of the 20 averages at the first four editions of the European Darts Championship. This list was shared by Darts Orakel and includes averages of 106, 114, 103, 113, 104, 110, 111, 118, 109, 109, 101, 106, 103, 105, 105, 108, 102, 102, 100 and 109.
