Mike De Decker was a guest on Tuesday night's program 'De Tafel van Gert' on the commercial channel VIER. In it, the 28-year-old Belgian looked back on his fight with Kim Huybrechts, among other things.
Last year a video suddenly surfaced in which Huybrechts and De Decker got into a fight. This received a lot of backlash in the media and after both men gave their version of the facts the storm subsided again.
On "De Tafel van Gert," Gert Verhulst's talk show, De Decker returned to this infamous incident one last time. "Actually, I reacted to it then and this case was a closed chapter for me. But since you ask anyway, Kim and I will never be best friends again, too much has happened for that. But we do act normal to each other again. Last weekend I saw him at the Czech Darts Open and then we do say hello to each other and ask how things are going."
"It's also better this way," De Decker continued. "We're going to run into each other a lot on the Pro Tour in the coming years and then it's better that you can get along normally."
World Championship
De Decker was also asked about his ambitions for the upcoming World Darts Championship. "I realize my status has changed after winning the World Grand Prix. There will be a lot more eyes on me now than before. But I don't care about that and remain calm under it. I am also realistic enough to realize that my victory at the World Grand Prix is no guarantee of a strong World Cup, after all, the level is so incredibly high these days that on a down day you can also just lose to a much lower ranked player."
