Richie Howson has already reached the final three times at a World Seniors Darts Tour tournament this year. Yet "The Owl" is still waiting for a first major win.
For Howson, the World Seniors Darts Tour came as a godsend. "I would probably have played Superleague once a week and County once a month and maybe the odd comp but then again, I may have decided not to play at all. I am very grateful to the World Seniors for giving us this platform to perform at the end of our careers and I’m sure it will go from strength to strength," Howson said.
"I first heard about the seniors tour from my wife, Lynn, she had seen it on Social media and said about entering. My love of darts had wavered a bit and I wasn’t really interested but she bought me my tour card and entry to the first qualifier in reading for my birthday so I had to play, as you know I qualified for the World Championships at the Circus Tavern on that first ever qualifier and it all spiralled from there, so very grateful to Lynn for pushing me to do it."
Howson already reached three finals, but so far could not win a major tournament. So what does he think it takes to win such a tournament? "My A-game," Howson said. "I’ve played OK in all three finals but not really played how I know I can, if I can manage to reach another final and bring my A game with me then I think I win.. It’s probably just getting used to playing in front of the cameras and the crowd but I feel really comfortable up there now so hopefully it will happen."
