Chris Dobey is the first into the Quarter-Finals of the European Championship in Dortmund with 'Hollywood' seeing off Stephen Bunting 10-8 in the first second round tie.
Split into two sessions today of second round, he will have to wait to find out his opponent but only until the end of this session with Michael Smith and Peter Wright facing off.
But for Hollywood, he hit a 97.6 average and a high checkout of 170 with 17 maximums between the pair in an absolute epic.
Dobey cruised into the lead early doors going 3-2 up with a 99.5 average and two 180's and was helped to an even further lead by doubling disasters from 'The Bullet'.
He sat only on 2/14 as Dobey helped himself to a 5-2 advantage before hitting a 170 for 6-2. This is when the rot stopper from Bunting occurred.
He hit a 107 checkout to trail 7-3 and kept chipping away at Dobey's lead with three consecutive legs for 7-5. Bunting hit a ninth 180 and an 84 checkout for an 11-darter to trail 8-7 and despite breaking back to go one away, Dobey missed a match dart on double 16.
Bunting made it 9-8 from there but missed darts to send it all the way and finally Dobey got over the line.

- What a shame about Sophie. She played brilliant darts all week and was always so calm and controlled. Maybe all those matches at the end just flattened her batteries. - No matter the competition she faces, when she's retired she can say "I was a multiple Women's World Champion" rather than "I repeatedly got knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round at the PDC World Champs." As a female why wouldn't she want to be a women's world champ? Darts players want to win surely? Her average on the women's tour was 84.86 which would've placed her in 152nd on the Pro Tour, she's wise enough to know that as it stands women still can't compete with the men apart from the odd win here and there mainly on the challenge tour. - That 2013 final was the best ever. Taylor was underdog, unheard of however MvG was in top top form and rightly favourite. He went 2-0 up, Taylor equalised. MvG went 4-2 up, Taylor ground him down went into a Power Surge and won the next 5 sets. Brilliant darts.medinabello08-12-2024
