Jonny Clayton is the new leader in the
Premier League Darts after his weekly title in Liverpool. A week earlier, Clayton had also reached the final, which means he now has eight points in the standings.
Wright, the winner of the first week, has five points. The reigning world champion lost his first match to Michael van Gerwen on Thursday night. The Dutchman thus booked his first victory in this competition and took his first two points. Van Gerwen lost to Clayton in the semi-final.
Joe Cullen lost to Clayton in the final match, but earned three points and is now in third place. Like Van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Gary Anderson and James Wade are also on two points. Michael Smith is the only player without a point after two weeks of play.
New format
The eight participants play sixteen times a tournament. The format is such that a player meets the other participants twice in a quarterfinal. During two weeks of play, in the eighth and sixteenth week, the draw is made on the basis of the points.
Points can be scored with results in the sixteen tournaments. A semi-final earns two points, a second place three points and a tournament win five points and a £10,000 bonus.
Based on these points the new Premier League Darts ranking is formed. The four best players advance to the Premier League Darts play-offs.
