Rob Cross snatched victory over Martin Schindler recovering from 3-0 down and 4-2 down as well as match darts and post match, he admitted he was lucky to move through in a ruthless assessment of his current form going into the Last 16 at the Grand Slam of Darts.
"Maybe not relieved, maybe I feel lucky. You've got to be a realist and little boy's birthday on Wednesday and when it was all going wrong, he had the match darts. I thought maybe for the first time in six years I can see the little boy on his birthday but it wasn't meant to be. Martin buckled at the wrong time, I feel for him I really do because he was the better player and he should be going through," said Cross post match.
"It'll be a tough tablet to swallow but he will come back stronger and he's good enough to do that. You can't miss them and then you've got to be superhuman to come back from something like that."
Cross knows though that in his mind, his form needs to be better and despite having the luxury of not defending much, he believes other aspects need to change.
"I'm not defending anything, I probably defended my money with that win there. Ranking wise, darts wise, it's not a problem. It was a care free attitude anyway. The form has to change if I want to be better.
"I think my TV form has been sceptical all year. I haven't been great. I'm enjoying it but there's an enjoying and a playing well and I'm not playing well. If it's not better, it's home time."
