Rob Cross edged past Keane Barry in a scrappy affair to begin his
European Championship campaign as he aims to defend his title win from two years ago.
Post match, Cross was lamenting his display and believes he got caught up with his opponent as opposed to playing his own game.
"Nowhere near, I've been playing a lot better obviously. I think he's a great player and don't get me wrong, he's a young man and he's a pure gentleman and I think he's going to go onto better things maybe not quite now but later on, he's going to be phenomenal."
He discussed whether he got dragged into his pace and believes he did slightly but made the pledge that he won't play as bad next round.
"I think I did but then I upset his pace where I go so slow so the game has a little bit of a contrast there and no one's really getting on with it. He threw three darts before I threw one."
"I won't play as bad, that's guaranteed. I'm playing all right at the minute and I'm enjoying my darts so it was a bit of a clash of each spectrum."
