Damon Heta and
Peter Wright secured a spot in the last eight at the
German Darts Championship on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday evening, the two players will face each other in the quarterfinals.
Heta was trailing 3-1 against Martin Lukeman, but after a poor leg from Lukeman, Heta was able to break back in the fifth leg with a 20-darter. A 104 finish then made it 3-3.
Eventually, it was 5-5 and Lukeman started the final leg. Lukeman was on 112 and managed to hit the triple 20 with his first dart, but threw his second dart into the single 12 instead of single 9, preventing him from getting a match dart. Heta took advantage and found his way into the next round via double 4.
Wright dealt with Nico Kurz in the third round. 'Snakebite' broke the German in the fifth leg with a 14-darter to make it 4-2 with a double 9. Wright then held by hitting 78 and 119, giving the Scot a 6-3 final score.
It ends Nico Kurz' European Championship hopes, with Chris Dobey now getting a favour in that he has now officially qualified for Dortmund.
