De Sousa and Jerónimo delight for Portugal, Larsson and Engstrom ends eight year wait for Sweden

Jose de Sousa and Vitor Jerónimo have sealed victory for Portugal in the opening round of the World Cup of Darts after seeing off Italian duo Guiseppe Di Rocco and Gabriel Rollo 5-3.

Despite 27% on the doubles, they were proficient on the scoring with four 180’s in all for the Portuguese duo.

It was the debutant who impressed most on the doubles as they surged into a 4-1 lead. A few slack legs allowed Italy back in but a 14 darter on double eight prevented it going all the way.

While for Sweden, they waited eight years for a World Cup win but the proficient duo of the in-form Daniel Larsson and Johan Engstrom saw this come to an end seeing off South Africa.

They punished poor doubling with 2/16 for Vermaak and Petersen compared to a superb 5/13 from the Swedish duo.
