Defending champions Scotland after successful opening win against Japan: "We played alright, we weren't spectacular"

John Henderson and Robert Thornton began Scotland's World Cup of Darts title defence on Friday albeit as a new team compared to last time out.

But they saw off Japan to begin proceedings and the duo spoke afterwards and summed up their performance and in the case of 'The Highlander' what it was like to pull on the Scotland shirt for the first time.

"It means everything. We are supposed to be the holders and we are trying to retain a tournament that we never participated so it's hard. But we got through and that was the main thing," said Henderson.

"The first round is always the hardest so we've got through that and hopefully we will improve."

"It's the first time me and John (Henderson) have played together for Scotland since the BDO days. We played alright, we weren't spectacular but we played alright," said Thornton post match.
