Glen Durrant will head into his second PDC World Darts Championship next week but it could have been very different for the three time Lakeside World Champion.
Durrant of course famously went close to not claiming his Tour Card at all and the BDO's demise was finalised during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is something that saddens Durrant due to his background in the sport and especially in the case of Lakeside.
"My best memories in darts are at the Lakeside. It was iconic, the history of it," said Durrant to The Sun.
"I remember when I first stepped on the oche and thought 'My God, Jocky Wilson stood where I am standing."
"It is the most iconic place. I am very sad with what has happened. I cannot believe it. I have said to my wife and friends who didn't realise the BDO had collapsed how lucky we were."
"It goes back to the Q-School when I scraped through. Had I not and gone back to the BDO, where would I be today?"
"I would probably be sat working in housing and dealing with an anti-social behaviour neighbour nuisance case. But here I am."
"I hope Richard Ashdown and everyone at the WDF can revitalise and rejuvenate the darts there. I am hoping to play some role, hopefully champion youth coming through. I am very proud of my amateur background."
