The first four Quarter-Finalists are confirmed at the 2024
Nordic Darts Masters with the top names coasting through being the theme thus far on Friday night in
Gerwyn Price,
Dimitri van den Bergh,
Stephen Bunting and
Nathan Aspinall all through.
Price was the most impressive. He coasted to a 6-2 win over Madars Razma with a 102.7 average and three 180's for a place in the Quarter-Finals. He moved three ahead in the tie early doors with a 100 finish to make it 3-0.
Price hit the same finish to go 4-1 up and towards the brink and continued to press home his advantage. Razma continued adding legs to make it 5-2 before Price sealed the deal 6-2 with a 60 checkout on double 20 to move through with a 15-darter.
Prior to that, Dimitri van den Bergh sealed a 6-3 win over Dennis Nilsson in an accomplished display over the Swede to make it through. He won through with five 180's, two ton-plus checkouts and a 96.5 average en route to the Quarter-Finals. He was joined by Nathan Aspinall after 'The Asp' saw off Marko Kantele.
Aspinall in particular was utterly deadly on the doubling. He hit 6/9 on the outer ring and a high checkout of 105. Initially he went 4-1 up on Kantele with that 105 checkout. Kantele hit a deadly finish of his own with a 72 checkout. But Aspinall surged to the finishing line on double 16 and hit a 75 checkout to seal the deal on treble 17 and double 12.
Stephen Bunting on the other hand will want to forget his opener in a hurry. He came through an edgy affair to see off Daniel Larsson in a deciding leg. It looked plain sailing throughout for 'The Bullet'. But he nearly was defeated by the Swede.
It was a first World Series appearance in nearly 10 years for Bunting with Larsson hitting back from 3-1 down to break back. Bunting hit a 110 checkout and although he wasn't at his sparkling best went one away. But Larsson with Bunting's finishing line in sight rallied and sent it all the way to a decider. Bunting though spared his blushes after not being able to get over the line. He pinned double 16 finally with relief etched all over his face.
