After
Dimitri Van den Bergh was a participant in last year's
Premier League Darts. This year, he was not selected, although his
UK Open win puts him firmly in the conversation for next year's lineup.
Van den Bergh previously indicated that he would have declined selection this year because he wanted to spend more time with his family. As mentioned though, the UK Open win seems to mean he's likely to get an invitation to Premier League Darts next year, although it's worth noting the last two winners, Andrew Gilding and Danny Noppert have both missed out on Premier League selection.
"I am indeed on the right track and want to try to get myself ready for the Premier League Darts in the coming months. Although I don't want to get too far ahead yet, after all, the PDC still has to invite me first," Van den Bergh said to the podcast 'Double Top'.
"I am working on myself, my main goal this year is discipline and personal growth. If I succeed in that I can perform even stronger next year and will be able to handle more."
Van den Bergh doubts the Premier League Darts is for him however. "I don't know if I really belong there. You have to have the right blood flowing through your body for that tournament. I'm going to think about it anyway if I get the invitation and will always discuss it with my family and sports psychologist. The most important thing is that the rest of my calendar doesn't suffer."
