Gian van Veen receives award for 'Newcomer of the Year'

Gian van Veen was elected newcomer of the year by the PDC in late January. 'GVV The Giant' left behind Luke Littler, Richard Veenstra and Niels Zonneveld in the vote.

At the start of the Pro Tour season on Monday, the accompanying award was presented to the 21-year-old Van Veen, who could look back on a brilliant first season as a Tour Card holder.

Van Veen reached the final of a Pro Tour tournament in 2023 for the second time in his career and was in two quarter-finals on the Euro Tour. The Dutchman qualified for major tournaments such as the European Championship, Grand Slam of Darts and the World Darts Championship, and even impressed with a semi-final place at the European Championship via a victory over Michael van Gerwen. In addition, Van Veen was in the final of the PDC Youth World Championship.
