As the first session of the 2023
Hungarian Darts Trophy continues rolling on, the next three players to secure progression through to the next round are
Scott Waites,
Scott Mitchell and
Scott Williams.
Madars Razma and former Lakeside champion Scott Waites were facing off in the first round. Waites started brighter, taking the opening two legs before a brilliant 110 from Razma got him on the board. When Waites got to within one leg from the match, it seemed to have awoken something from within the Latvian as he fired six perfect darts to get back to 5-3. After Waites missed match-winning opportunities in the next leg, Razma punished and it was now 5-4. Waites would not be denied though and secured victory, booking himself a round 2 tie with Peter Wright.
In the next tie, another former Lakeside champion was in action as Scott Mitchell squared off with
Andy Boulton. Both players weren't at their best early on in some scrappy opening legs. After five missed darts from Boulton in leg 7, Mitchell was able to break and nudge ahead at 4-3. Just as the game looked like getting away from him though, Boulton fired in a sensational 143 to draw back level. As they went to a deciding leg, it was 'Scotty Dog' who held his nerve to prevail.
Richard Veenstra took on Scott Williams in the next match. After a nip and tuck opening to the match, Williams got the first break of throw in leg six to move 4-2 ahead. Missed doubles then began to bite at Veenstra as Williams pressed home his advantage and moved a leg away from the match. Although Veenstra pulled one leg back, Williams sealed the deal with a 6-3 victory.
