"He's a brilliant player and he knows he's got the game to win anything" - Mardle full of praise for Aspinall

Nathan Aspinall won the World Matchplay for the first time in his career last Sunday. 'The Asp' defeated Jonny Clayton 18-6 in the final for his second major title.

Wayne Mardle, himself a former World Matchplay finalist (2003), was impressed. "He said going into this event that he feels good about his game. He'll feel even better about it now!" Mardle laughs. "Darts with a fit, aggressive, smiling Nathan Aspinall is a better place."

Second major title

For Aspinall, it was his second major title after the 2019 UK Open. "After winning the UK Open, everyone thought 'well the final doesn't bother him.' But then he lost three or four after that. He's put that to bed."

"He's a brilliant player and he knows he's got the game to win anything," Mardle concludes. "It was the perfect night for Nathan. What a champion!"
