Kim Huybrechts has continued his revival with 'The Hurricane' seeing off Florian Hempel 6-3 as the evening session begins at the
International Darts Open in Riesa.
In a night full of German talent, Hempel won't be a player who will move through after falling at the hands of Huybrechts who hit a 97.5 average and five 180's en route to victory.
He now faces Devon Petersen tomorrow afternoon in a potential good draw for Huybrechts with the form of 'The African Warrior' subject to some scrutiny since his 2020 rise.
While prior to that,
Mervyn King saw off Janos Vegso in a match which wasn't a talking point due to its quality more so due to the tension between the two players.
King is one to let his feelings known and he was visibly frustrated with the Hungarian who kept seemingly creeping into the exclusion zone.
But nevertheless, King didn't let this derail him as he won through 6-3 and faces the returning Danny Noppert who was at the side of his girlfriend as he became a father for the first time in recent weeks but now he returns to the oche to face King tomorrow.
While Lewy Williams kicked off proceedings and the Welsh youngster impressed as he surged past Dennis Nilsson, a
European Tour stalwart 6-4.
This featured six 180's from the new Prince of Wales with Nilsson hoping to cement his aspirations for the World Cup of Darts team with a race hotly contested with Johan Engstrom and Daniel Larsson.
But Williams paid heed to those at least for this week as he won through and will face Krzysztof Ratajski.
