Kim Huybrechts thoroughly enjoyed the first edition of the
Belgian Darts Open last weekend. The Euro Tour tournament in Wieze attracted no less than 18,000 frenzied Belgian fans over the weekend.
It was also a successful tournament for Huybrechts, who defeated top seed Michael van Gerwen 6-4 in the second round.
"I have already recovered, but it was fantastic huh," The Hurricane' looked back to Het Nieuwsblad. "This was without a doubt one of the best tournaments of my career. The defeat against Adrian Lewis took that one on the chin but he was better. The win against Van Gerwen was one of the most beautiful I've had. People confuse finest with best, because I have already played better. But in front of my own crowd and with a finish like that to finish it off."
"In terms of results, I did indeed show myself once again in front of a big audience," Huybrechts added. "Although the level could be better, especially towards the World Championship. I'm going to use the tournaments until then as a dress rehearsal.
"I'm also normally serious head then, so I'm aiming my arrows at the World Championship. But I have already scored points with the Belgian public here, that's true. I was the only Belgian on Sunday, so then the attention was not divided. That speech to the audience? They deserved to be told how great they were. And I was indeed hyped, I was looking forward to it so much. The adrenaline takes over then and then you go total loss."
