"I had to play my best game" - Impressive Jose de Sousa sets up clash with Luke Humphries at International Darts Open

José de Sousa has qualified for the second round of the International Darts Open thanks to a 6-3 victory over Cor Dekker.

De Sousa did not know his opponent beforehand. "Yeah. He surprised me," the Portuguese reflected post-match. "I never knew of this player but he pushed me and I had to play my best game."

De Sousa had a slow start, but once he found his rhythm, played some really good darts. "In the beginning of the game the doubles just didn't happen for me," he explains. "I just thought to myself 'keep scoring and it'll change for me'. In the end that's what happened and I'm very happy."

The 50-year-old Portuguese will take on reigning world champion Luke Humphries in the second round.
