Michael van Gerwen got off with a scare in the second round of the German Darts Grand Prix. 'Mighty Mike' defeated his compatriot Jeffrey de Zwaan 6-4.
Van Gerwen quickly gained a 5-1 lead against De Zwaan, but then saw De Zwaan come back to 5-4 before eventually finishing it off 6-4.
"The focus silted away a bit," Van Gerwen opens. "I made mistakes and he took advantage of that. I shouldn't put myself in this position, because I really should have just won the match 6-0 or 6-1."
"This crowd is top notch, they are real dart fans," Van Gerwen continued. "I'm looking forward to tomorrow to give the fans what they deserve."
In the third round, Van Gerwen will take on Joe Cullen on Monday afternoon, who was too strong for Jonny Clayton in the second round, 6-3.
