Wesley Plaisier failed to grab a Tour Card at
Q-School early this year. The 33-year-old Dutchman did reach the final of the Dutch Open in early February, but lost to Jarno Bottenberg. In an interview with Double Top, he talked about the past period and his plans for the upcoming season.
Wesley Plaisier managed to qualify for the final stage of European Q-School in January, but came up just short with 5 points not enough to grab a Tour Card. The past two years Plaisier was seen as one of the big favourites to win a Tour Card. ''Last year I failed because of that pressure, but this year I didn't suffer from that. I threw well this time, but it just fell against me.''
At the beginning of February the Dutch Open was scheduled, where the winner of the World Masters was seen as one of the big favourites for the title. Plaisier made it to the finals, where he had to play Jarno Bottenberg. Plaisier missed a chance to lead 2-0 in sets, allowing Bottenberg to hang on in the match and eventually take the final. ''I let him come into the match and he made good use of that. Maybe there was some tension or fatigue involved with me as well.''
Because of his position on the Challenge Tour, Plaisier did manage to qualify for next weekend's UK Open. ''I am super looking forward to it. The level at the top of the PDC is much higher, but I know I can do it. I already have some top player records on the Euro Tour.''
Plaisier is currently second on the WDF-ranking and is planning to throw some WDF-tournaments in the coming season to secure participation in Lakeside. ''If I throw some more tournaments and score some points I should be fine. I also want to throw all the Challenge Tour tournaments to hopefully finish high enough to participate as a reserve player on the Pro Tour."
