A broken collarbone was the diagnosis after Huybrechts had to be transported to hospital after getting involved in a brawl.
Huybrechts was attending the cup final between Royal Antwerp FC and Union St Gilloise in the Belgian capital Brussels on Thursday. On the way to the supporters' bus, Huybrechts and a friend were beaten up by Union supporters.
Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws visited 'The Hurricane' in hospital and asked him about the circumstances of the incident. "About 30 Moroccan youths started shouting something - that Union had won, and so on. A few Antwerp fans shouted something back. You know how that goes," Huybrechts began his story. Then, out of nowhere, he was attacked. "I got hit on the right with a motorbike helmet. Then I was tackled on the ground and they started stomping on my head, chin and collarbone."
Huybrecnts and his comrade had no chance against the group of Union supporters. "I was defenceless and felt pretty quickly that something was wrong. In two minutes it was done and the group had also disappeared. Maybe they thought I had shouted something against them? There were no police in that little park either, which I found strange."
The two-time major-finalist is adamant that he did nothing to provoke the argument. "From my side, there was no trigger at all. So this is senseless violence. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't think they were targeting me. Something like that does make you angry, yes."
On Friday, Huybrechts will go under the knife and then a rehabilitation period awaits. "I am positive. I am having surgery today and I want to be able to play darts again as soon as possible. The prognosis is six weeks, but I would like to be ready after four weeks. Then there are the qualifications for the tournament in Antwerp. I would love to be there.''
