Martijn Kleermaker recently claimed his PDC Tour Card through the European Q-School Order of Merit meaning he will play on the tour for the next two seasons.
It is a huge step in the career for the Dutchman and one that he admitted in an interview with Omroep Gelderland he can't wait for.
"It was the first time that I participated and I was immediately successful, which is extra nice."
The 28-year-old darter only started playing darts ten years ago with no real aspirations. 'But then I had no international aspirations at all, then four years ago when I qualified for the Dutch selection. I then played in the BDO, that is the amateur organisation. There it is such a mess and you actually have to play in the PDC to compete against the best in the world. ”
"I really wanted to win such a Tour Card and I succeeded. Now I can do what I want for two years. I can compete against the best players in the world, that's the dream. "
Kleermaker has ambitions and doesn't just want to play his part on the ProTour. He wants to join the World's elite. "I am not alone playing against them. It's fun to participate, but I don't want to be a plaything. I want to compete with the best and become one of the best players in the world. This is an incredibly beautiful first step in my still early career. ”
To further expand his career, the Dutchman decided to spend more hours practicing. As a result he quit his job at a retail company. Bringing in his Tour Card has also resulted in a sponsor contract.
"That is really great, because working 40 hours and playing darts is going to be difficult. Now I can play all the tournaments. Now I can do everything with financial security for the next two years, I don't have to think about whether I can pay my rent. "
