Maik Kuivenhoven claimed a two-year Tour Card in 2019 but like many, he has only started to find his stride in the second year of his run but of course that was cut short due to Coronavirus.

In terms of his life away from darts, as he explained to RTL Nieuws, he is still working basically full time as well as playing darts so it is not a career for him yet.
“I have a girlfriend and two children and in addition to playing darts, I also work 38 hours a week as a team leader at a company for aerial work platforms in horticulture. At the moment it is definitely not going to be a professional yet, I do have a number of sponsors but not enough to live completely by playing darts alone, ”said the 31-year-old Dutchman.
“I reached the quarterfinals at two Players Championships and I also won this year against Mensur Suljovic , Joe Cullen and Michael van Gerwen. Especially the victory over Michael gave me a huge kick, it does something to you if you can beat the number one in the world. ”
“That will be quite a task, but I still believe in it. The level on the Pro Tour is very high and last year it often went wrong at the decisive moments.
Now I have gained a bit more confidence and this was reflected in my results at the beginning of the year. So it was extra unfortunate for me that the Pro Tour was stopped. Because of my good results at the beginning of this year, I do have sight of the World Championship and that is really a dream to play at Ally Pally,” he concludes.
