Christopher Kempf, in charge of statistics at the PDC, has released a new alternative world ranking, where he uses stats to determine the most in-form players.
This alternative world ranking takes into account only the last 200 legs played. As in the official Order of Merit, we find
Luke Humphries in first place. 'Cool Hand Luke' achieved an average of 102.01 over the last 200 legs. In addition, he threw 89 scores between 171 and 180 and twelve high finishes (for which you need at least three darts). Humphries also has by far the highest doubles percentage with 46.92%.
In second place is
Luke Littler. The 17-year-old Englishman, is already up to 28th in the official Order of Merit after bursting onto the scene last December. He has a slightly lower average than Humphries at 101.35, but did manage to throw 93 (four more than Humphries) high finishes.
Completing the top three is
Gary Anderson, who averages 101.01 and threw a whopping 97 high finishes. His doubles percentage is comparable to Littler's, but quite a bit lower than Humphries'.
Remarkably, we find
Michael van Gerwen, second in the official world rankings, only in eighth place here. The 34-year-old Dutchman, who recently struggled with some injuries, "only" achieves an average of 96.69.
