Meulenkamp after easing past Ashton in World Darts Championship opener: "I could feel on stage that Lisa wasn't playing her best"

Ron Meulenkamp breezed past what many thought could be a tricky test in Lisa Ashton who was out of sorts on her latest appearance at the PDC World Darts Championship.

"I'm a little bit of a thinker so I do care because I know that the consistency wasn't there. But obviously I'm happy with the win. I could feel on stage that Lisa wasn't playing her best so I need to be on top of that and I'm glad I was," said Meulenkamp post match.

"I've lacked stage games this year so I was glad to have one now. She wasn't on her A game and that make me feel uncomfortable."

Having a game on the stage before facing the seeds, Meulenkamp though takes the pragmatic approach of thinking of himself first before his next opponents.

"I always watch myself first, I don't watch the other players. I know I'm not there yet where I want to be but these matches against my next opponents, that will make me get there."
