Last week, it was announced that
Michael Smith had signed a contract with darts manufacturer Shot Darts after a 10-year during partnership with
Unicorn Darts came to an end.
During his time with Unicorn, Smith won 16 ranking titles, including the World Darts Championship. In addition, the Englishman won two World Series titles, including a historic triumph at the US Darts Masters at Madison Square Garden in 2022.
Via Facebook, Smith came forward with further explanations about his move to Shot Darts. In doing so, 'Bullyboy' revealed that talks of a transfer had been ongoing for some time.
"Two years ago, I was sent a proposal from my manager (Mark) about a meeting with a new darts company who was interested in signing me to their brand/family. We set the zoom call up and just chatted away for a hour." Smith began his story.
''This was on a weekly basis, and more and more we spoke to Peter and his team with the vision and passion he was showing me, I instantly fell in love with his passion and wanted to be part of it. These zoom calls carried on until the present and the passion still hasn’t left. He’s made me feel important and special, even 2 years ago when I was yet again another runner up."
''I saw that Shot's and my own vision was the same and we just took off, working at the weird hours having the time difference but it didn’t matter. We were eager to get something amazing done."
"Here’s to the next chapter in my career and also Shot's expansion. Let’s create a perfect team and start bringing the titles home." Smith concluded.
