Again this year, two ladies will compete at the PDC World Championship. Darts commentator Jacques Nieuwlaat however fears for their chances of success.
Lisa Ashton and Fallon Sherrock recently qualified via the Women's Series.
"Fallon Sherrock showed two years ago that it is possible for a woman to beat men at the World Championships (she then beat Ted Evetts and Mensur Suljovic successively before going down against Chris Dobey). Still, I found it a bit sad that that achievement got more attention than all the women's World Championships combined. It also means that women's darts is missing something fundamental", said Nieuwlaat on the podcast 'Everyone loves the darts'.
Still a difference
"No matter how you spin it, there is still a level difference in darts between men and women," Nieuwlaat continued. "In a sport like athletics women also jump over lower hurdles than men, why not make a special women's board in darts? For example, you could make the triples a little bigger so that the averages are bigger, that would make the sport more attractive to the viewers I think."
