Niko Springer has won the 20th tournament of the PDC
Development Tour 2024 on Sunday. The German once again managed to hold off
Wessel Nijman in the semi-finals and then captured his second title of the weekend.
Nijman had reached the finals in each of the first four tournaments this weekend. Three times the Dutchman turned his final place into a win, while he lost one final to Springer on Saturday afternoon. The same Springer managed to beat Nijman 5-1 in the semifinals of Development Tour 20, causing Nijman to miss out on a fifth final this weekend. In an all-German final, Springer then outlasted compatriot Leon Weber 5-3.
The Development Tour is the youth circuit of the PDC. This tour is open to players ages 16 through 23. Players who turn 24 during the season may continue to compete.
At each Development Tour tournament, there is a prize pool of 15,000 pounds to be divided. With the prize money, a ranking is established. At the end of the season, the numbers one and two receive an invitation to the World Darts Championship, plus a Tour Card for 2025 and 2026. The ranking winner also gets to compete in the Grand Slam of Darts.
