No Premier League Darts line-up announcement after PDC World Darts Championship final

The tradition of announcing the line-up for the Premier League Darts after the World Darts Championship is now over, it has been confirmed.
Matt Porter announced this on Monday evening with the PDC Chief Executive not giving a reason why. However, sources report to DartsNews that this has been decided because the PDC and Sky Sports have not yet reached an agreement on the line-up.
According to the current schedule, the Premier League Darts start on Thursday 3 February in Cardiff. Whether this can continue remains to be seen. There are currently strict COVID-19 measures in Wales, which means that an evening in the Premier League with thousands of fans there is currently not possible.

I get the commercial side to it but she is so far away from earning a spot on merit that her inclusion would make it a complete farce. Keep in mind her place would be at the expense of someone who has earned it on the dartboard.
Not completely factual. Bunting and Durrant got given places and were not in the top ten, it was because they were BDO defectors holding the Lakeside title. The only guaranteed places are the world ranked top four and the reigning champion if not one of those. The Premier League has to be viewed as a promotional and money making event for the PDC and Sky.
I agree it can be used as a promotional tool and that some "wildcard" style entries are appropriate for that purpose. However only to a point. The likes of bunting and durrant had made their way up the pdc world rankings and also been standouts on the bdo. That is an enormous difference to someone who failed to even earn a place on the tour to even rub shoulders with the top players in the game. Get herself in let's say top 25 of the world and then at least there is some credibility to the discussion.

- obviously littler has the potential to surpass everybody simply because nobody has been this good at this age before, but people who think he would be any kind of favourite right now against prime taylor in a big final have short memories. it's obvious that prime taylor wouldn't win as many world titles if he was playing today, but there's also good reason to believe he'd be winning more than anybody else. hell, his statistical profile still stands alone in darts history and he might statistically be even better if he was playing today with better equipment, larger beds, more competition therefore more motivation, etc.colt24-03-2025
