Players Championship Order of Merit update: Peter Wright could still qualify for Players Championship Finals

Radek Szaganski emerged Friday as the surprise winner at the 27th Players Championship tournament of the season. With this final victory, the Pole collected the top prize of 12,000 pounds, assuring his participation in the Players Championship Finals in one fell swoop.

Szaganski was still 58th on the Players Championship Order of Merit on Friday morning, but now finds himself up in spot 33. Peter Wright is another player who is doing good business this week. 'Snakebite' was well outside the qualifying spots prior to the four-setter in Barnsley, but has since climbed to 74th position, however still trailing by £1,500 from 64th place.

Wright has two more tournaments Saturday and early November to completely close the gap. Mervyn King (75th) and Mensur Suljovic (76th) also seem to be picking up some ground. Nathan Aspinall (92nd), on the other hand, has fallen further behind. 'The Asp' even decided to skip this week's final two days of play, so he seems to have given up participating in the Players Championship Finals.

The field of participants for the Players Championship Finals (Nov. 24-26) consists of the top 64 on the Players Championship Order of Merit. Meanwhile, 27 of the 30 tournaments have been played.

The ranking is currently led by Gary Anderson with 77,750 pounds, well ahead of Gerwyn Price (67,250 pounds) and Dirk van Duijvenbode (62,250 pounds).
