The fifth night of Premier League Darts 2024 will be played in Exeter on Thursday evening. In the run-up to the event, Adrian Geiler of DAZN, takes a look at the walk-ons of the eight participating players.
He chooses "Hot Hot Hot" by Arrow, the walk-on by Rob Cross, in eighth place. The song has potential, notes Geiler. "But it ebbs away a little too quickly." Something that Cross probably also has in his sights. Voltage has already considered getting a new walk-on song in the past, but has not yet realised this. Seventh place is occupied by "Don't stop the Party" by Pitbull. It's hard to imagine Peter Wright taking to the stage with a song other than this one. He, the song and his "dance" are probably too closely linked for the fans. "It's still fun, but it's worn out a bit," is Geiler's verdict.
Gerwyn Price, who normally enters to "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice, has recently used "Don't stop believin" by Journey for his walk-on. Geiler is not convinced by this choice. "One of the best songs in the world. But does it really suit Price? I don't think so!" And so The Iceman only takes seventh place in the list.
The walk-on song by Luke Humphries, "Cake by the Ocean" by DNCE, was awarded sixth place by Geiler. The song has "really stupid lyrics", but sets the mood.
Michael van Gerwen's walk-on is in fourth place for the DAZN presenter. "A real classic. Green hall, bass, 'Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes - you know what time it is. The green machine is coming."
In Geiler's opinion, Michael Smith's walk-on song is completely underrated. "Walk the Moon with 'Shut up and Dance'. This song is really infectious, just like Bully Boy's game," says Geiler, explaining his ranking in third place.
Luke Littler's walk-on landed in second place. The Nuke enters the stage to the sound of Pitbull's "Green Light". "From WrestleMania 33," comments Geiler. "Special player, special walk-on."
Even though Nathan Aspinall says he is starting to hate "Mr Brightside" by the Killers, the song is becoming more and more popular with the fans. It's also the definitive number one for Geiler. "The walk-on regularly gives me goosebumps."
